These templates are free to download and great for specific projects like printing table tents or raffle tickets, but what about templates for the basic print project. I came across this site with a nice collection of generic blank templates you can download for free. Once you’ve downloaded and unzipped the folder you’ll be able to use their templates for creating flyers, brochures, posters and more. Check them out here.

As we inch closer and closer to the launch of our new Digital ecommerce site (more on that in the coming weeks), we decided to give the current site a little freshing up. Much went on behind the scenes to improve performance, but the biggest change that you’ll notice is the look. This update was strictly a design update as most of the content on the site stayed relatively the same. Unfortunately our current ecommerce site is still stuck in 1998, but we are working hard to get back to the future and bring you a better online shopping experience soon.

I also want to mention briefly that along with a new look, we added a new section called LEARN. The Learn page is where we plan to share all our paper expertise through many different outlets, including videos, inspirational templates, answers to your frequently asked questions and more. This page will hopefully grow into a very helpful resource center no matter what your level of paper expertise is.

The second half of 2011 should bring some exciting and much needed improvements to the website and I can’t wait to be able to show them off.

In the meantime feel free to comment on the new look below.

Back in 1936, Art Kelly started the company with the idea to service the small printer market. It wasn’t until the mid-50s when Art developed the concept of a “paper store.” Up to that point, printers had paper delivered to their shops or made will-call pickups at a paper-merchant warehouse. The original paper store was called Self-Help Paper and was the storefront operation for Kelly Paper. As Self-Help Paper grew to be very successful, it wasn’t long before Kelly Paper and Self-Help Paper merged to create the Kelly Paper stores you see today.

The success of Kelly Paper is only because of the loyalty of our customers. As the print industry changes and evolves, Kelly Paper will be here helping you be more successful by offering new and innovative products and services, keeping pace with technology and as always, offering that unsurpassed customer service you’ve come to expect.

Thank you for your many many years of business. Stayed tuned for more history as we commemorate the last 75 years of Kelly Paper over the next couple of weeks.

Presentation can be everything and sending your next direct mail campaign in the right envelope is crucial in portraying your company’s image and message. With so many envelope styles and sizes out there, how does one choose which to use? It is important to first outline the needs of your campaign. For example, if you need an envelope solely for mass mailing purposes, choosing a simple regular #10 envelope would be ideal to cut your costs and get the job done quickly. However, if you need your direct mail pieces to convey more of a professional look and style, going with a higher quality envelope with a specific finish like linen or canvas would do the trick.

Here’s are 3 quick points to consider when choosing your envelopes:

Define the target market and goals for your campaign

You’ll want to know the Who, What, Where, When and Why for your mailer.

Determine the envelope size needed

Business envelopes are generally sold in a #10 size (4-1/8 x 9-1/2), but the weight of the paper can vary from a 20# bond to a heavier 32# bond. The most common weight though is a 24# bond. You can view our envelope sizes and styles page to get a quick overview of the sizes.

Consider adding some texture to your envelope

When more than just a standard white business envelope is needed, a fine paper textured envelope is often used by businesses, churches and non-profits to help set them apart from the rest. I listed a few of your options below.

Linen Envelopes
Linen texture is one of the most common fine paper finishes. The texture replicates the finish of woven linen cloth. The texture can be subtle or pronounced and will often be a distinguishable feature of a specific paper brand. Even with a texture, these papers will usually work well with inkjet printers, laser printers, and black & white copiers and color copiers.

Smooth Texture Envelopes
Even though paper is smooth, the premium nature of the paper is apparent because of the quality, finish and often the watermark. The “smooth” finish can vary by brand from a rough smoothness called “cockle finish” to an extremely smooth surface similar to matte-coated paper.

Parchment Envelopes
Parchment finish is one of the most distinguishable paper finishes available. It is a classic mottled finish reminiscent of old paper. Available in multiple colors, parchment is always sure to please. Even with a texture, these envelopes will usually work well with inkjet printers, laser printers, and black & white copiers and color copiers.

Felt And Canvas Finish
Felt finish is very similar to a “canvas” look and feel. In fact, many watercolor papers sold for the purpose of watercolor painting and charcoal drawings have a felt finish. A felt finish gives an unparalleled look and feel to the envelope.
